Christmas Cycle in Kensington United Reformed Church
In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of its composition, Red Events presents a unique program from the song cycle for voices and harp, consisting of 12 short pieces set to ancient English and Latin texts and a solo instrumental piece. The concert will occur in an ancient church in the heart of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
Written in 1942 during the composer's sea voyage from the USA to England, the composition was first performed on December 4, 1943, at London's Wigmore Hall. In addition to Britten's Christmas cycle, lovers of English music can also enjoy songs by legendary lute songwriters John Dowland and Thomas Morley in an intimate & relaxing atmosphere.
